Providing your dog with the appropriate amount of calories is a proven way to prolong their life. Dogs that maintain a healthy body weight live 5-10% longer than overweight dogs.
Calculating the right portion is critical, as feeding just ½ cup more per meal is the equivalent of feeding your dog an extra 6” sub sandwich every day!Calculate portion

I am SOOO grateful you guys created this, as is my dog (though for different reasons!!) I LOVE that your food is BAKED in a Wisconsin bakery and not extruded (fast, super high-heating which destroys nutrients). I also LOVE that no other animals are tortured and killed to feed my dog; that means a lot to me, also!!!! Petaluma cares about my dog's health and at the same time that of the other animals we share this way-too-challenged Earth with, and that means the world to me!! My one suggestion: please amend your packaging for large size as soon as that makes sense for you; it needs to be way easier to keep the food FRESH, ie., not with the typical very thin resealable plastic which you don't include, but the much easier inch-wide strip that closes almost like a mild velcro. Oh, another suggestion: please add canned food as soon as that is possible!! My dog LOVES your kibble above all others. Because it's vegan I actually tasted it. Honestly, I don't love it like her, Ha...
Thank you so much for your thoughtful review, Rachel! Your feedback is appreciated. We hope to add a compostable zipper in our next bag design. The thicker Velcro closures add a considerable amount of plastic so we're hoping to find an environmentally friendly option (either recyclable or compostable).
I bought my first bag and my English cream golden retriever seemed to like it. She just was spayed and transitioning during that period of time probably was not the best idea. It took her a couple of weeks to get her true appetite back after surgery. I had to hand feed Petaluma to her while she was recovering. I was transitioning from premium raw animal based protein. She was pooping 7-8 times per day very large amounts. I did not think the food was agreeing with her. I wrote to Petaluma and they immediately refunded my money. They also explained how transitioning from raw meal protein to vegan kibble is quite a change and may take a time to adjust. I love the customer service and I love the concept of vegan. I have read how plant based organic can literally add years to our pups life. I may have reacted too soon. I feel bad now that I did not give it more time. I only used 1/2 the bag so far while transitioning. I am going to continue feeding her this food and observe. I am really hoping it all works out and I can continue with Petaluma. Please forgive me Petaluma for jumping the gun and assuming it was your food that didn't agree with my dog. It just may have been, like you said...the transitioning period! Thank you for making this product...thank you for helping me understand the transition and thank you for the immediate refund with no questions asked. Keep up with what you are doing!! I want to be a forever customer because of a great product that will help my dog live longer and a customer service team to help with that journey. What more can you ask for from a company. Hoping for more organic ingredients along the way and maybe more flavors. Again, thank you PETALUMA! I am truly hoping to order again!!!
Thank you for sharing your experience, Carol! We are happy to hear your experience has been positive overall and are grateful for your business and feedback. Please reach out any time if we can be helpful.
Honestly, there are so many positive things to say about not only the quality of the product but also the company.
The girls (two Airedale Terriers) took to these with all the enthusiasm they have with their raw food. They've always been fed a raw diet of mostly animal products (with some fresh veggies), sourced directly from local farms.
In an effort to increase sustainability and reduce waste, I've decided to carefully and mindfully transition them to a more plant-based diet.
After conducting a great amount of research, I chose Petaluma for a multitude of reasons, some being:
2. Company values and commitment to sustainability to not only the product itself, but the entire manufacturing process;
3. Quality of product and transparency;
4. Willingness of company/staff to receive and consider feedback for suggestions and improvement.
The list goes on, but you're probably reading this to see if you want your pups to try this and the answer is: YES. Depending on what they're being fed now, it's important to note the transition period and reach to your vet or vet nutritionist with any questions/concerns.
We've had no issues so far--the girls are happy, healthy, and the earth is a little bit greener.

Madisen, thank you so much for sharing such a thorough review of your experience with Petaluma. We are so happy to hear that our brand and product has resonated with you (and your very cute pups). Thank you for being a part of our #petalumapack :)
I have five rescues and they all loved it. Will order more.
I love your concept and really hoping my baby will love it! She was spayed last week and still doesn’t have her full appetite back! So..it’s hard to tell what she really thinks of Petaluma.She will eat it out of my hand though! I will follow up once she is fully recovered! I am wondering at what temp you bake and for how long? Thank you for creating this food and helping our pets and planet!!!
