OAKLAND, CA, October 22, 2021 -- Petaluma, Inc., a pet care startup focused on environmental and social sustainability, announced a partnership with the nonprofit organization Farming Hope. Starting on November 22, Petaluma will donate the equivalent of one nutritious meal to a food-insecure individual for each bag of Petaluma sold to a new customer through the end of the year.

“Many small businesses feel pressure to cut prices and compete with the largest retailers over the holiday season, usually beginning with a frenzied sale on Black Friday,” said Caroline Buck, co-founder of Petaluma, “We wanted to try out a different approach and swap heavy discounts for a meaningful donation to a nonprofit organization where we have a strong values alignment. Farming Hope is serving a critical gap in our community and we hope our customers will be as excited as we are to support their mission.”

Petaluma and Farming Hope are both affiliated with 1% for the Planet, a global network of businesses, nonprofits, and individuals working together to fight climate change and support environmental solutions.

About Farming Hope

Farming Hope is a garden-to-table job training nonprofit for formerly incarcerated or homeless San Franciscans. Farming Hope’s paid Apprenticeship program helps adults transition to personal wellbeing and life-sustaining employment. Apprentices cook nourishing meals for food-insecure neighbors using high-quality recovered food that would otherwise have gone to landfills. Most direct service organizations focus on immediate needs without providing a structured path toward self-sufficiency and community building. Farming Hope addresses this gap through a community-based model with three main initiatives: well-supported job training and transitional employment; healthy, nourishing meals for food-insecure community members, and waste reduction through food recovery.
