This kibble is so beloved by my pups, that they actively chose it over traditional meat kibble.

The oldest, Ellie (current 10 year old Klee Kai with regular upset tummy issues), was found to have developed a serious allergy to kibble with meat. Probably the preservatives, the vet surmised.

Vet recommended a vegan / vegetarian kibble for her going forward.

We tried a few, including prescription, but Petaluma was the obvious winner.

It was such a hit, that Ellie’s two younger sisters (Yuki, currently a 4 year old Jindo, and Kaia, currently a 2 year old Klee Kai) started turning their nose up at their meat kibble and demanding Petaluma instead.

2 years later, all 3 are all firmly on Petaluma kibbles, with a supplemental organic meat topper.
They freakin’ gobble it up.

I typically don’t give reviews but felt this food warrants it. I’m very particular on what I feed my furry friends. I have had several dogs that had allergies that forced me to learn about dog foods and ingredients. Long story short this dog food is second to none. I have three dogs different breeds all can’t get enough of this food. Their coats are amazingly soft, energy levels high and are all extremely healthy.

Everything about this company was what I was looking for: sustainable, completely balanced, food trials, senior formula, Board Certified Veterinary Nutritionist and AFCO approved, not raw and not grain free. My two stars is for those reasons. I bought the sample and my 10 pound senior dog seemed to like it mixed in with the Hills kibble, she seemed to like so went to purchase, but my only option was the 18 pound bag. I couldn’t get the smaller bag which is more convenient for a small dog. So I bought a food grade storage container for the huge bag which should last me several months without going stale. Well, the kibble in the big bag seemed harder and bigger than the sample because she had trouble chewing it. . She eats 20 pieces of kibble, so I started breaking them up with a hammer into smaller pieces, but she still refused, so added hot water to soften it with no luck, then bought the new dehydrated whole food sample to use as a topper and she won’t touch it. I also purchased the sweet potato treats because she does eat the dehydrated pieces I get at the pet store, but they were too big, so I cut them to size and she still won’t eat. I soaked them with no luck. Overall I spent around $170. Between, the foods, treats and container to keep the huge bag, only to donate to the local rescue. So frustrating because I really wanted to like this. I think the marketing is clever with these dog food companies, it sucks you in, but that’s what marketing does. Sadly, am going back to a kibble that’s been around almost a century that has gone through food trials and tested by board certified veterinary nutritionist to be completely balanced and half the price. 😔

My dog loves it and I loved that it is baked and not cooked at high temperatures like most kibble.

This dog food was such a great find!
Our little Maltese is 14 yrs old. She has been vegan for many years.
She has a sensitive stomach and has developed skin issues. We had to coax her to eat. No appetite.
I began feeding her the roasted peanut butter and sweet potatoes, and things changed immediately!
She begs to be fed now, and is playful again. This behavior is something she hasn’t displayed in several years.
We are absolutely sure it’s because of the quality food, and the fact it is gently baked. I just recently ordered the new whole food mixer. I’m anxious for her to try it. I am a big believer in not destroying the enzymes in food by cooking.
I think this will be a great supplement to her food, or maybe even use it as her meal.
