DON'T JUST TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT
I ended up taking both of my dogs to the vet when they started throwing up daily after being on this food for a few weeks. Turns out there is too much fiber, and that clogged up my Frenchies' digestive tracts. X-rays showed my dogs' bowels and stomach were full of food. If it happened to one of the dogs, I would assume it was an issue with the dog, but with both dogs having the same issue, I can confidently say it's an issue with the food. Unfortunate because I liked the ingredients and thought it would be a great vegetarian option for my dogs.

I'm sorry to hear your dogs experienced digestive issues, and I completely understand how concerning that must have been. Every dog is different, and we know formulas can't be one-size-fits-all. Petaluma's formulas do contain higher fiber levels than most conventional dog foods, which is intentional and based on extensive work with veterinary nutrition experts. We use a gentler baking process (rather than traditional kibbling) and include whole food sources that naturally include the fibrous components (like whole chickpeas vs. protein concentrate).
While this approach supports digestive health for most dogs, some are more sensitive to higher fiber content or could have sensitivities to certain plant proteins (potentially our more novel ingredients, like peanut butter). When dogs transition to higher-fiber diets, the most common adjustment is bulkier or more frequent stool, but digestive upset like you described suggests your dogs may have had a sensitivity to one of our ingredients.

My seven dogs love this food. They can not wait until dinner and breakfast. I am so glad I found this food. I feel like.y dogs are much healthier now. No upset stomachs ever. Thank you for making our dogs healthy. Maybe make some different flavors just to mix it up.
I was skeptical that he would even try it, but he loves it! I introduced it to him slowly and he now only eats Petaluma mixed with cooked food. He's doing well! His teeth are much cleaner-traditional kibble causes a lot of plaque buildup-and I feel better knowing he is eating a better quality food that is conscientious of our environment. Btw, they're also great as training treats! Good for healthy rewards or for just spoiling him ;-)
I am plant based, and discovered that my dog Earnie, a German Shepherd Boxer mix, also thrives on a plant centered diet. Before making the switch, he struggled with hot spots, and itching. We have tried a variety of different plant based dog foods, and Petaluma is by far and away his favorite! He does a happy dance when I open the bag!
Just because the dog I walk didn't want to even TRY one, which meant he didn't like what he 'sniffed', I will try to see if another dog would like them.
